Mercedes-Benz Auctions off the Most Valuable Car in the World For A Great Cause!

Mercedes-Benz has been busy! With the production of various electric vehicles, releasing body styles and specs of the 2023 line-up, and planning future line-ups, Mercedes-Benz has increased their presence by entering into the realm of philanthropy! Mercedes-Benz has created a scholarship program, The Mercedes-Benz Fund, to support young minds worldwide, focusing on areas of environmental science and decarbonization. The funding for this global initiative is directly from the auction of one of the rarest vehicles to exist: The 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé. This vehicle is 1 of 2 prototypes ever created and is a milestone in sports car development. This gorgeous beast was sold for 135 million EUR, or $142,421,490 USD and is described by Mercedes-Benz themself as "an absolute rarity...one of the finest examples of automotive engineering and design by automotive experts and enthusiasts worldwide." The 1955 300 SLR is more than deserving of the high accolades and recognition.  Motorsport Guru Karl Ludvigsen described the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR as "one of the most exciting cars that Mercedes-Benz has ever built." This statement by Ludvigsen is especially true when reviewing the specs of the vehicle, which is only emphasized in combination to the expectations and the technological availabilities of the mid 1950s. Described by the creator Rudolf Uhlenhaut himself as a "hot-heeled touring car", the name fits the bill! This rare coupé outputs 310 horsepower and weights a little short of 2,500lbs; it was the fastest car registerable for use on public roads during its release era. Unfortunately, Mercedes-Benz felt the demand was extremely low for such a speedy, yet elegant and relaxed, sports coupé during the mid-1950s, sealing its fate to it's extremely recherché title 67 years later. The proceeds from this auction will seed Mercedes-Benz' global scholarship program to encourage the new generations to develop amazing and new technology to follow in Rudolf's innovative footsteps. The Mercedes-Benz Fund will focus supporting young people in their commitment to studying and creating a more sustainable future, "We are convinced that access to education in these areas will be crucial in encountering the great challenges of our time and contribute to greater stability, prosperity and social cohesion" explains Renata Jungo Brüngger, who is a board member of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG for Integrity and Legal Affairs, and is mainly responsible for the governance of the Mercedes-Benz Fund. Everyone at Mercedes-Benz of Smithtown has supreme faith in the next generations of engineers and designers. In addition with the Mercedes-Benz Fund, this faith transforms into outright confidence. The generosity of Mercedes-Benz to auction off such a rare classic vehicle for environmental funding shows just how serious Mercedes-Benz is to their commitment to sustainability and producing all-electric vehicles; Mercedes-Benz strives toward 70% of energy production to be offset by renewable energy by 2030. Mercedes-Benz has also pledged to product strictly all-electric vehicles until the end of this decade, and aims to cut the carbon footprint per passenger car by more than half by 2030. The 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR now holds a spot on the list for top ten most valuable items of any type to ever be sold at auction. Knowing there are only two of these gorgeous vehicles in the world, it is natural to wonder where the second half of the matching set is; The second 300 SLR Coupé remains in Mercedes-Benz ownership and will continue to be displayed at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, Germany.

How To Identify A Mercedes-Benz Battery Leak

Inside a battery, there is a corrosive, highly toxic sulfuric acid solution. So, if there is a leak in your battery, from where that kind of substance is coming, it's nothing to play around with. Extreme attention and care should be used when leaking car batteries are handled or dealt with. This is crucial! Always use protective gloves and protective eyewear. If you remove a leaking battery from your vehicle, it must be stored in a secure and safe manner, kept away from pets and children, and disposed of properly. Is Your Battery Leaking? Ordinarily, if the battery is functioning normally, a leak shouldn't occur. A leak may be indicated, however, by some tell-tale signs. Let's look at those first: Fractures – From any fractures in the battery (battery casing cracks), if there is fluid dripping, that's visual evidence of a leak. Cell caps – Through the battery’s cell caps, you may notice liquid bubbling/seeping. That's a leak. If your battery appears distorted, inflated, or warped, this is a problem as well. A battery should be immediately removed and replaced if it is damaged. The signs above are signs of battery damage. If you notice any of those conditions, that battery has got to go. Handling a Leaking Battery As mentioned earlier, leaking batteries should never be handled without proper protective eyewear and protective gloves. Should a leaking car battery’s contents come into contact with your skin, use cold water to immediately wash your skin clear and clean of the solution. Seek medical attention and advice if you get the substance in your eyes. Immediately, however, thoroughly flush your eyes as much as possible. Why Do Batteries Leak? As mentioned earlier, a properly functioning battery should not leak. There are a number of reasons, however, why your car battery may end up leaking: Old batteries, because they are damaged, may leak through the body. Old batteries may also leak through cell caps. In the case of extremely cold weather, due to the battery contents freezing, a battery may begin If the battery is overcharged, it may cause a leak. How To Choose The Most Ideal Mercedes-Benz SUV

The fact you have chosen Mercedes Benz, among all the available SUVs, says a lot about you. Just going with Mercedes-Benz, as a manufacturer, means that you want nothing but the best. Fortunately, no matter which SUV you purchase, as long as it's a Mercedes-Benz, that's exactly what you'll get – the very best. But if you've already made your mind up about the manufacturer and type of vehicle you want, you may be wondering how to choose the most ideal Mercedes-Benz SUV. What goes into selecting a vehicle? How do you know it will suit your purposes? By examining a handful of SUVs, you'll be able to compare their similarities and differences and decide which one suits your lifestyle and needs the best. Vehicles We’ll Examine Very briefly, we'll look at five Mercedes-Benz SUVs: G-Class GLS SUV GLE SUV GLA GLC GLE In 1970, with a truck-like exterior, the first generation of this model was launched. The second generation was created in 2006. It had significantly improved comfort and handling as well as a unibody design. In 2012, the third generation appeared. There is limited space for luggage, the third row was removed, and seating capacity reduced. Keep your eyes open for the GLE 581 with a 48 volt system, 4.0 liter V-8 engine, and impressive twin turbo features. GLS Plenty of space and comfort are available in this, the most luxurious SUV by Mercedes. First and second generations of this vehicle differed in engine size, fuel efficiency, and overall SUV size. The GLSs third generation promises a greater degree of driving comfort and innovation. Two hybrid powertrain models are featured in the third generation. GLC In 2010, these compact SUVs were originally made. They had standard seating, were easy to maneuver and park, and were previously referred to as the GLK. With limited legroom and cargo space, they could easily fit four people. Improvements in 2003 and 2016 were somewhat subtle. But new improvements in performance, exterior, and interior were featured in the 2020 model. This compact variant by Mercedes is powerful with a 4850-pound towing capacity. Check out the new hybrid model. G-Class Introduced in 1979, this model had a body-on-frame build and a boxlike style. You may have heard it referred to as the AMG C-Wagon. The new model comes with driving modes for both off and on road, 9-speed automatic transmission, 4.0 L twin turbocharged V-8, and more. Mercedes’ usual ultrahigh standards are evident in the interior. GLA A more compressed, stockier version of the GLC compact SUV was introduced in 2015 and labeled the GLA. Today, it is available in two models: the AMG GLA 45 and the AMG GLA 250. They both have basically the same four-cylinder engine but the 45 exhibits more power. Additionally, you will find a standard AWD system in the 250. Once again, the interior is stylishly designed and typical of Mercedes. 2022 Mercedes-Benz S-Class vs. 2022 Chevrolet Corvette

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz S-Class knows how to sum-up what is needed in a super luxury car. This has a spacious interior for passengers, and is loaded with reliable and convenient technologies, both for safety and entertainment. It has a muscular engine lineup as well. For the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette, it is proud to present a posh interior and a useful cargo area that provides more room for belongings. It also launches the IMSA GTLM Championship Edition. Design & Style The 2022 S-Class has one of the nicest interiors in the world of luxury vehicles. The solidly constructed exterior and well-built interior mixes all the characteristics that car buyers are looking for in a luxury ride. There are soft-touch plastics complementing the comfortable seating configuration. Add to that, it is trimmed with aluminum, leather, and even real wood. The cabin, as a whole, imbibes a futuristic elegance depicting what modern car buyers love. The 2022 edition for the Corvette model has a dated interior. Despite pushing effort to make a powerful engine, its cabin has been an underachiever through the years. The interior may feel sturdy, and opulent with splashes of soft-touch surfaces and aluminum accents, but there still is something missing when you ride in it. Configured to sit two, it comes fitted with leather upholstery as a standard. Technology & Safety Perhaps fitted with the largest infotainment display in its class, the S-Class is given a 12.8-inch monitor for its MBUX infotainment system. Add to this, it also has wireless device charging, 15 speakers, wireless smartphone configuration, and a whole lot more. Safety features standard to the ride are Car-to-X communication, driver drowsiness monitoring, hands-free park assist, surround-view parking camera system, adaptive cruise control, and a whole lot more. The Chevy Corvette, on the other hand, pairs its infotainment system with an eight-inch touch screen and a 12-inch digital gauge cluster to support its various functions. You can also mirror your smartphone using its Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibilities. The ride, however, fails in terms of presenting its climate controls, which is highly unusual since they cascade down the dashboard. Standard driver features include rear parking sensors, rearview camera, and Teen Driver. Performance There are definitely powerful engine options in the S-Class. This starts with a turbo and supercharged inline-six option that can register 429 horsepower and ends with a twin-turbo V12 configuration that releases up to 621 horsepower. That of the Corvette gets a V8 that releases 490 horsepower. The Bottom Line The 2022 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is a luxury super car that features all traits of perfection. The Corvette may look good, but not really as cool as its counterpart. Ready to Schedule a 2022 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Test Drive Today?

How To Replace A Mercedes-Benz Car Battery

If you have the right kind of tools, and enough know-how to get the job done right, you may want to attempt a few of your own repairs on your automobile. Something as simple as changing out a battery isn't that big of a job. Fuel pumps, brakes, alternators, etc. are best left to the professionals. On a Mercedes-Benz, everything has been manufactured precisely. Everything fits with everything in a certain manner. It is a high-tech, high-efficiency machine. If you don't trust yourself working with something as crucial as the engine in your Mercedes, bring it to a certified Mercedes mechanic. That said, let's take a look at how to replace a Mercedes-Benz car battery. Please keep in mind that the following instructions are very general and may not apply specifically to each and every make and model of automobile. Jumping If you have tried to jump your battery and it still won't start, there can be little doubt that you likely need to replace it. You might be able to jump it and drive around for a while to charge it, thereby solving the problem. If your battery won't hold a charge, or charge at all, it needs to be replaced. Steps to Changing a Battery It's best to wear gloves and safety goggles when you're working with the battery of an automobile. Locate your car’s battery. Find the negative and positive terminals. (Positive is usually stamped with a plus sign and/or has a red cover. A minus sign should be on the negative/black.) On the negative or black terminal, loosen the nut with a socket wrench. From the battery, you can now remove the negative terminal. With the positive or red terminal, repeat the process. The clamps that hold the battery in place will now need to be removed. Check carefully because there may be several. (You can probably use a socket extension for this.) You can remove the battery from its tray once you set aside the fasteners and clamps. Make sure that both ends of the battery are never touched with a metal object at the same time! Corrosion will be indicated on the terminals by a greenish residue. With baking soda and water, and a wire brush, these should be cleaned. Make sure that everything is completely dry before continuing. From the ends of the posts, the black and red plastic covers should be removed before replacing the battery. On both battery posts, you may want to install anti-corrosion washers. You may also wish to use a corrosion resistant gel or anti-corrosion solution on the terminals. In the battery tray, you can now place the new battery, aligning the negative and positive ends of the battery with the terminals that match. In the same way you removed them, reinstall the clamps to secure the battery. Time to Reconnect Here's how to connect your new battery: The positive terminal should be connected first. To the positive battery post, attach the positive/red terminal. With the negative/black terminal, repeat the process. To ensure both ends are secure and connected, try to move the battery around. Check all clamps if the battery shifts. Check cable tightness as well. Reinstall the cover if the battery was originally covered. The hood of the car can now be closed and you can fire up your engine. Note: Check out YouTube for how to replace an automobile battery and any other "how to" videos you may need for assistance. They are abundant! Shop for New and Used Vehicles at Mercedes-Benz of Smithtown Could you use some help replacing your vehicle’s battery? How To Know If You Have A Mercedes-Benz Fuel Pump Issue

If your car has been acting strangely lately, you might be wondering if you have a Mercedes-Benz fuel pump issue. It's important to keep your luxury ride in the best shape possible, so let's check it out. So your car can run smoothly – or run at all – from the gas tank to the engine, gas is delivered via the fuel pump. If the pump fails, becomes damaged, or overheats, your engine won't run properly because it's not getting fuel. It probably won't run at all. It may be time to get your fuel pump replaced, or at least inspected by a certified mechanic, if one of the following signs rears its ugly head. High Temperature Stalling If your car’s thermometer gauge is rising, you may have a bad fuel pump if, during that time, your engine stalls. To keep running properly, the engine has to work harder because it's not getting enough fuel. It becomes hotter, the harder it has to work. Eventually, to prevent overheating it will stall. Gas Mileage Is Reduced Your fuel pump might have a faulty or failing relief valve if you find yourself putting gasoline in your automobile more than usual. Gas flows to the engine in excess if the valve doesn't operate properly. That just burns off and gas mileage is reduced. Under A Load, Loss of Power When you need it most, and the engine is under a load, you may lose power if the fuel pump isn't doing its job properly. It will begin to drag. Because the fuel pump is faulty, it can't keep up with the demand from the engine. The Car Has Trouble Starting Any number of issues can contribute to an engine not starting, but the reason could be a bad fuel pump. If gas can't get to the engine because the fuel pump is faulty, when you turn the key, the engine will crank but not start. The Engine Surges or Sputters You may have a faulty fuel pump if the engine suddenly starts to sputter while you're driving. The sputtering is because the engine's performance drops because the engine isn't getting a steady stream of fuel via the pump. Another sign of a failing pump is that, when the right amount of gasoline doesn't get to the engine, it surges instead. Get All Your Vehicle Maintenance Needs Taken Care Of at Mercedes-Benz of Smithtown The best course of action, if you think your Mercedes-Benz has a fuel pump issue – or any other problem you may be having with your Mercedes-Benz – is to hand the problem over to the certified technicians at Mercedes-Benz of Smithtown. 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS vs. 2022 Cadillac XT6

Among the leaders of the luxury large SUVs for this generation is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS. Car buyers in Huntington will surely love it for offering the best in terms of interior design, and exterior construction. Its powerful engines give it even more points on the leaderboard. The 2022 Cadillac XT6, on the other hand, is loved for its roomy seat configuration. It has a generous cargo space as well. A luxury trim carrying a four-cylinder engine now debuts for this ride. Design & Style The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS has three rows to accommodate up to seven passengers. There is an option to use captain’s chairs and drop the seating arrangement to just six. When the two back rows are folded, it presents a total of 84.7 cubic feet of cargo space. This ride is just as handsome as it is sporty-looking on the outside. It used real wood trims to accentuate its cabin surfaces. The 2022 Cadillac XT6 is extremely comfortable for seven passengers. Like the GLS, the configuration can be reduced to six when the second-row bench is traded for captain’s chairs. You may complain about the lack of cushion for the ride, though. This ride can accommodate 12.6 cubic feet of space when all seats are in use, and can expand to 78.7 cubic feet when the last two rows are folded down. It may have high-quality materials in the cabin, but it is not as opulent as its rivals, the GLS included. Technology & Safety The 2022 MBUX carries an infotainment system that is easy-to-learn. This one has additional controls that help with its functionalities for the 13 speakers, satellite radio, HD radio, and wireless device charging, among others. It also integrates Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You will also love the inclusion of a voice command system in this ride, as well as the in-car communication system. Safety wise, it has automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, vehicle exit warning, parallel and perpendicular park assist, crosswind assist, and surround-view parking camera. In the case of the XT6, it has an eight-inch touch screen for its CUE infotainment system. It takes time figuring out how the system works, plus it has touch-sensitive climate controls that can be somewhat finicky. It has eight speakers, six USB ports, a Bluetooth®, satellite radio, and a Wi-Fi hot spot, apart from wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Standard driver aids include forward collision warning, following distance indicator, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and rearview camera, among others. Performance The 2022 GLS has the base 450 with an engine that can yield 362 horsepower. This goes up to 603 horsepower for the to the AMG® GLS 63. When it comes to the 2022 XT6, its base engine starts with the turbo-four that can generate up to 237 horsepower. Its V6 can only aspirate 310 horsepower. The Bottom Line There are indeed powerful engines and reliable technologies in the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS. It is filled with great attributes in terms of design and style. It definitely beats the 2022 Cadillac XT6. Ready to Schedule a 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS Test Drive Today?
