Attention: All Long Islanders, Do you love horses? Of course you do, who wouldn’t! Mercedes- Benz of Smithtown is excited to announce its partnership with LIPHA (Long Island Professional Horsemen’s Association). This association helps gather professional horsemen, exhibitors and members for important horse events. They are one of 16 chapters nationwide that are involved in the PHA. Not only does this association help by gathering these members and people of similar interests, but they are always willing to give back. A scholarship program is offered to the college and trade school students no matter if they are professional, associate or junior members. Helpful AND fair? Sounds a little too perfect, huh? If that wasn’t enough, they also want to raise the standards of horse shows on Long Island. The association offers point classes in 21 divisions. Members then can compete for awards at the end of the year. You learn so much more than horse’s and the sport, this program really strives to push for good sportsmanship in a competitive field. Educating members on conducting a healthy space where there can be friendly competition. Adults and children can learn from others and it motivates you to push yourself a little more. This program also shines a bright light on member recognition. You are currently able to view the 2021 LIPHA High Score Award Winners. You can take a look at the horses as well as the riders and so much more. Scholarships are currently being accepted for their 69th Annual LIPHA Show. Some refer to it as the finest automotive event on the East Coast, but it is formally known as Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance. For this year's event, which ran from March 7th-March 10th 2019 featured a very special vehicle. Presented on the Concours Field, was a pair of Mercedes-Benz 300SL "Gullwing" examples in their own exhibit area. The chassis, numbered 43 and 44, were built directly next to each other in the factory back in 1954. Now they've been reunited thanks to the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center. It is said that they were probably taken off the road sometime in the 1960s and sanded down to prepare for a paint job that never came about. The Gullwing numbered 44, was restored by Mercedes-Benz's Classic Center in Irvine, California, to its original 1954 look. Restored in 2018, chassis number 43 was originally shipped to Miami in 1954 and was only registered for ten years. Everything about this car is completely original, from the body, the glass, leather interior, drivetrain, and wheels, to the special Englebert tires. The only thing that has changed, is the finish of the body. Originally, the car was painted a radiant blue shade. The paintwork was then sanded down and primed before progress came to a halt. The pent went unfinished until Mercedes-Benz' recent restoration. Chassis number 44 was restored to the original condition that it once flaunted, some 5 decades ago. The Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance is truly one of the most well known and glamorous events for classic automobiles. Each year, the finest cars from all over the world are brought to this event, to be judged in different categories by a panel of jurors. Be sure to attend this event next year when it begins on March 5, 2020, to see what vehicles will be brought then! At Mercedes-Benz of Smithtown, we pride ourselves in our work to continue on the legacy that Mercedes-Benz has created over the years.
