With winter just around the corner, it is time to prepare your vehicle for the upcoming weather conditions. I’m sure we can all agree that driving in harsh snowy weather is the worst. Whether it be commuting to school or work, going to a friends house or even to the supermarket, it is crucial to make sure your visibility of the road and your surroundings is clear and unobstructed. Your windshield wipers play a huge part in your overall safety and must be in their best working condition in order to safely drive your vehicle. How to know when it’s time to replace your windshield wiper blades you ask? Here at Mercedes-Benz of Smithtown, we compiled a small, simple list of things to look out for: Your windshield wiper blades are hanging off, cracked, and/or broken Your windshield wipers make a loud squeaky noise. Try cleaning them off; if the noise persists, it is time for new ones A portion of your windshield is not being cleared Another helpful tip is changing your windshield washer fluid. Water will freeze on your windshield during the winter. Your vehicle should be equipped with cold-weather washer fluid that is safe for your vehicle to use. This will help you avoid frozen fluids on your windshield that may obstruct your visibility when driving.Replacing your windshield wiper blades and washer fluid is pretty simple however, here at Mercedes-Benz of Smithtown we suggest seeing a professional. It is recommended to replace your wiper blades every 6 months to a year. Fall Car Care: Tire Tips
When we transition from fall to winter, it is crucial to make sure your tires are in good condition. Your safety depends a whole lot on the condition of your tires – they give you the ability to grip the road, make safe turns, and stop in a safe amount of time. How To Maintain Tires Check Tire Pressure We suggest keeping your tire pressure at the recommended level which can be found in your vehicle owner’s manual. Be aware that cooler temperatures will change your tire pressure. Low tire pressure can cause your tires to lose their grip on damp, rainy surfaces. Check Tread Wear When your tire treads are worn, your vehicle is not able to handle weather conditions like rain and snow. Worn tire treads make it difficult for your vehicle to grip the road. Regardless of tread wear, many vehicle manufacturers recommend the average driver to replace their tires after 6-10 years. However, you should check the manufacturer’s recommendations on your specific tires. Although there are many ways to check your tires at home, we highly recommend seeing a professional. Here at Mercedes-Benz of Smithtown we offer many vehicle services including tire inspections. With a Tire Center located in our dealership, we can help you find the best tires for your Mercedes-Benz vehicle. 2019 Mercedes-Benz S-Class vs. 2019 Porsche Panamera
The 2019 Mercedes-Benz S-Class may not have undergone a major change when compared to its predecessor, but it remains to be an exquisite ride offering plenty of space to its passengers. Its well-designed cabin matches its sturdy body construction. For the 2019 Porsche Panamera, the inclusion of a head-up display is a welcome addition. It has spacious and supple seats plus it has a great engine to match its body. Design & Style Offering a four to five seating capacity, The 2019 Mercedes Benz S-Class easily creates a good impression on the outside. It is gifted with no less than a world-class interior, with its cabin made using the most excellent quality materials. Experience luxury like no other even with all other surfaces inside the car. It has a great amount of cargo space too and this can be expanded according to the trim level that you opt for. The 2019 Porsche Panamera oozes with classic yet remains to be a minimalistic beauty. Inside the car, you will find components that were crafted using only premium quality materials. It has options for carbon fiber upgrading as well. Cargo space is limited for this car, however. Technology & Safety For the 2019 Mercedes-Benz S-Class, technologies are topped by the use of a 12.3-inch display supporting for its very own COMAND® infotainment system. The display may not have a touchscreen interface but controls come in handy to access the interface. It offers smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Lane keep assist, forward collision warning, and driver drowsiness monitoring are among its driver aids. The 2019 Porsche Panamera makes use of an innovative infotainment system. This one includes a navigation system but there is only support available for Apple CarPlay, and not Android Auto. Despite this effort, the driver will have a difficult time working on the screen, because he might even get distracted while driving. Standard safety features include only front and rear parking sensors, as well as a rearview camera. All other options come with a price. Performance Getting a total of 330 horsepower in terms of output from its V6 engine, the 2019 Porsche Panamera easily impresses those who want to give it a try. This is definitely lower than what the V6, 3.0-liter engine in the 2019 Mercedes-Benz S-Class can offer. The latter can produce up to 362 horsepower. While these cars are tied at a fuel efficiency rating of 19mpg for city driving, the S-Class has a higher score in terms of highway driving, with 28mpg, a point higher over Panamera’s 27mpg. The Bottom Line With an engine that is powerful enough to take you to places, and a reliable fuel efficiency rating at that, the S-Class is a true winner. It is world class all throughout with a list of features that are commendable for its class. Ready to Schedule a 2019 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Test Drive Today?
2019 Mercedes-Benz GLA vs. 2020 Volvo XC40
The 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLA has added more standard features to its upper trim level. It also made sure that the base trim and all other trim levels enjoy new features that buyers will want to try. User-friendly systems have also been included in the launch of this new model from the brand. The 2020 Volvo XC40 has removed the leather upholstery from its standard inclusions. Nonetheless, it still has a nice interior to boast against its competitors. Power-folding rear seats are no longer available for this car model. Design & Style The 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLA exudes a combination of sportiness and modernity in its exterior. This is an attribute that makes it belong to the fleet of cars from the brand. Inside the car, there is a cozy interior awaiting its passengers. You will also enjoy the comfortable seats made out of the softest yet sturdy materials. With a nice interior and roomy seating, the 2020 Volvo XC40 is truly a remarkable car too. Note, though, that it has a subpar cargo capacity, and has eliminated leather upholstery as part of its materials for the interior. Power-folding rear seats are no longer available to provide comfort to users. Technology & Safety The 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLA presents a great combination of its eight-inch touchscreen display with its infotainment system. This car is also gifted with a six- speaker audio, Bluetooth® interface, and a CD player. The GLA also comes standard with a rearview camera, plus is given advanced driver aids like forward collision warning, and automatic emergency braking. For the 2020 XC40, the Sensus Connect infotainment remains to have the nine-inch touchscreen display. This looks like a tablet rather than the usual car panel. The entire system takes time getting used to. Many think that provision for physical knobs will be better for other functions like climate control. It has a long list of active safety and driver assistance features, including forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and automatic high-beam headlights. Traffic sign recognition, as well as oncoming collision mitigation are also standard. Performance With a four-cylinder, 2.0-liter engine placing power under the hood of the 2020 Volvo XC40, you will be able to get results of only up to 187 horsepower. Results for the GLA are much better at 208 horsepower for the same engine size. The Bottom Line The 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLA is indeed one great car that can topple down even a newer car model like the 2020 Volvo XC40. It remains undisputed in terms of design and technology features. Add to that, this car is also powerful when it comes to engine performance. 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLA vs. 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia
With a base powertrain that is energetic, refined, and fuel-efficient, the 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLA has established itself in the world of luxury small cars. It also has a large trunk to accommodate passenger belongings. The major change made by the 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia when compared to its competitors is the reshuffle of features for its various trim levels. It gives a thrilling performance, and has a user-friendly infotainment system as well. Design & Style The 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLA is a car with a five-seating capacity. It comes in a standard synthetic leather upholstery for its seats and brings comfort to passengers. The entire cabin feels upscale too, and this is a proof that the Mercedes-Benz meets expectations in terms of design and style. There is plenty of cargo space in it, in fact, even better than those offered by rivals. As for 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia, you will notice how appealing the exterior is. It comes packed with components ranging from automatic wipers to a set of 17-inch alloy wheels. It is blessed with xenon headlights too. Styling is good for the interior but it falls short in terms of headroom, thus taller passengers may not be accommodated unless they are willing to suffer a stiff neck after a long ride. Technology & Safety Packed with a usable infotainment system, the CLA has now integrated smartphone capabilities like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. There are air bags and a rearview camera for your safety. It also comes packed with other driver aids like forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, driver drowsiness monitoring, active brake assist, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. The 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia struggles a bit in terms of technology and safety features. It is true that it has been given navigation and audio systems, but these technologies are not as great as expected. Even driver aids come with a price. Performance Reaching a maximum power for 280 horses, the Alfa Romeo Giulia is defeated by the CLA with a maximum output of 375 horsepower. It is also more fuel efficient since the CLA can rake scores of up to 37mpg for highway driving, whereas the Giulia only reaches a maximum of 33mpg for highway driving. Both cars are tied at 24mpg for city driving. The Bottom Line The 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia may be pleasing to look at, but all other qualities are not as pleasant as those found in the CLA. The latter is a much better choice, not just for its engine performance but also for its enjoyable technologies, and its overall elegant design and sturdy construction. 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class vs. 2019 Audi A5
The 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class embraces a lot of good things that is proven to attract modern-day car lovers. This luxurious sedan is elegant to look at, and has a strength that can bring you to rugged roads. It may be lighter, but it is packed with plenty of features. The 2019 Audi A5 is one luxury small car that has undergone an update with the inclusion of the RS 5 Sportback model. It no longer has a manual transmission available. Design & Style An elegant and refined look, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class is indeed one compact car that offers a lot in terms of design. Its alloy wheels were designed to give it the smooth feel. The detail shape found on its lower end has helped enhanced performance for this car. Looking at this car, you know how impressed one is going to be once he sees this car. With 18-inch wheels, the A5 is a sporty luxury car embracing plenty of features. It has the delete license plate holder, plus a carbon fiber trunk lid spoiler. Heated steering wheels, stainless steel pedal caps, and ventilated car seats are also part of the assembly. Technology & Safety The 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class has technology features that are great for enjoyment. It integrates Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also has fast and responsive features for the infotainment system. Safety wise, you can count on lane assist, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control, among others. The 2019 Audi A5 has a 10-speaker audio system, a satellite radio, USB ports, and Bluetooth® interface. Child-seat anchors and engine immobilizer are also available. Pre- and post-collision safety systems, blind spot monitoring, emergency braking assist, as well as stability and traction control, are found in this luxury car. Note that not all of these features are responsive to the touch. Performance Producing a maximum power of 188 horsepower, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class has fuel efficiency ratings of 24mpg for city driving and 35mpg for highway driving. The inline-four engine in the A5 may give up to 248 horsepower of output, but it only scores 23mpg and 34mpg for city and highway driving, respectively. The Bottom Line While it is quite obvious that the 2019 Audi A5 offers a lot of great things, there are certain facets in this car that do not meet expectations. It lags a lot of points behind the 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class, especially when it comes to overall engine performance, as well as responsive technology features. The A-Class is also more appealing from the inside to the outside, making it the car of your choice if you want to get more value for your money. The Vision Mercedes Simplex is a blast from the past
Vision Mercedes Simplex Late last week at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz presented the Vision Mercedes Simplex. The new design is seen as a reimagination of the original Mercedes, the "35 PS" which was designed in 1901. The 35 PS is known to be one of the first modern cars-- being much more advanced than other automobiles of that time. Original Mercedes 35 PS from 1901 According to The Verge, the two designs from different time periods share similar qualities. Both designs have a front half that is white and back half is black. Both have a large white engine and radiator module upfront as well as a blue open two-seat cockpit at the rear. Although designed fairly true to the 1901 35 PS original design, the new Vision Mercedes Simplex ultimately symbolizes the transition to a new era of design and technology. The radiator is rimmed in rose gold and the grille has an animated display that shows information on the vehicles status. Automobile - Mercedes-AMG G63 is Nuts in the Best Way
We all know that the Mercedes-Benz G-Class 550 is a very fierce vehicle but once you add an AMG hand-built from start to finish engine, well now you have an undeniable piece of powerful artwork. Automobile Magazine states that "the G550’s blown 4.0-liter V-8 is a studly piece. But for the AMG G63, “just” 416 hp simply won’t do. Instead, each G63 engine is hand-built from start to finish by a single AMG tech and then signed. As impressive as that brawn looks on paper, on the road, it’ll leave you babbling in disbelief. The G63 weighs near three tons, but you’d never know it. The first time I mashed down on the throttle in Sport+ mode, I thought I’d driven off a cliff. The G63 just flung itself at the horizon, the permanent all-wheel drive slamming every lb-ft to the asphalt, the quad side pipes blaring like an angry grizzly stuck in a dumpster, the acceleration so fierce it could straighten teeth sans braces". "It’s not just the mind-blowing straight-line speed. The G63 stands 6.5 feet tall and boasts 9.5 inches of ground clearance, but it’s got enough cornering power to transform any cargo in back into Silly Putty. My test car wore optional 22-inch rims with low-profile Goodyear Eagles that clung to the earth like four geckos. Sure, it rolls a little, but less than you’d expect, and its handling poise is physics-defying—like watching an elephant win gold in the slalom. But I know how AMG’s engineers do it: magic"."When you’re done roughhousing, Comfort mode softens the ride like an apology, the engine burbles, your troubles and concerns melt away. I put more than 700 miles on the G63, blissfully ensconced by the noise-canceling glass, my nose savoring the Mercedes-Benz Air Balance air purification system, my backside basking in a ventilated Nappa leather seat with massage. When I got home, I didn’t want to park the G63. I wanted to hang it on my wall". Fun Facts: Did you know that the G in G-Class stands for Geländewagen which translates to "cross-country vehicle", it was originally was born as a military machine, and it has gone largely unchanged since 1979. At Mercedes-Benz of Smithtown, we would be happy to assist you in making a G63 your very own. You will be able to style it to be completely customized to you and your likings. Give us a call today to learn more at (631) 265-2204.
