Some refer to it as the finest automotive event on the East Coast, but it is formally known as Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance. For this year's event, which ran from March 7th-March 10th 2019 featured a very special vehicle. Presented on the Concours Field, was a pair of Mercedes-Benz 300SL "Gullwing" examples in their own exhibit area. The chassis, numbered 43 and 44, were built directly next to each other in the factory back in 1954. Now they've been reunited thanks to the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center. It is said that they were probably taken off the road sometime in the 1960s and sanded down to prepare for a paint job that never came about. The Gullwing numbered 44, was restored by Mercedes-Benz's Classic Center in Irvine, California, to its original 1954 look. Restored in 2018, chassis number 43 was originally shipped to Miami in 1954 and was only registered for ten years. Everything about this car is completely original, from the body, the glass, leather interior, drivetrain, and wheels, to the special Englebert tires. The only thing that has changed, is the finish of the body. Originally, the car was painted a radiant blue shade. The paintwork was then sanded down and primed before progress came to a halt. The pent went unfinished until Mercedes-Benz' recent restoration. Chassis number 44 was restored to the original condition that it once flaunted, some 5 decades ago. The Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance is truly one of the most well known and glamorous events for classic automobiles. Each year, the finest cars from all over the world are brought to this event, to be judged in different categories by a panel of jurors. Thank you to all who participated and to all who were onlookers, as well as another huge thank you for the wonderful turnout! The Nissequogue Club, located at 21 Golf Club Rd, St James, New York 11780, was founded by a small group of investors in 1966, on over 120 acres of land, previously owned by William J. Ryan. Mr. The present clubhouse was originally constructed in 1929 as the main house of the Ryan estate. The Club is run by elected officers and governors. Their staff consists of eighty employees, led by professionals in many fields, including a General Manager, Clubhouse Manager, Golf Course Superintendent, Golf Professional, Tennis Professional, and Controller, who are responsible for maintaining their high standards and strengthening the reputation of the Nissequogue Golf Club as one of the top-notch golf clubs on Long Island. Founded in 2014, with over 900 volunteers and 102 graduates to date, Paws of War aims to train and place shelter dogs to serve and provide independence to our U.S. military Veterans who suffer from the emotional effects of trauma from war. With the help of Paws of War, each Veteran can experience the restorative and unconditional love that only a companion animal can provide. Since 2014, Paws of War has rescued 455 dogs, visited 89 dog shelters, and attended over 200 community events! Paws of War provides service dogs and training to veterans who: Have served in any branch of the uniformed services at any time Have received an honorable or a general (under honorable conditions) discharge Have a disabling medical condition, connected to one's service Have met all Paws of War requirements for application into the program, applied, and been accepted into the program Have successfully completed all of the required Paws of War training and met certification requirements There is absolutely no cost to Veterans for the service dogs or the services that are provided, such as rescuing, training, and placement of the dogs! Ewy Rosqvist had a passion for car racing and she has made history as being the first female winner alongside Ursula Wirth, her co-driver. She won all six stages at the Argentinian Touring Car Grand Prix in 1962 while setting a record speed of 78 mph and finishing three hours ahead of the competition in the Mercedes-Benz 220SE sedan. Her parents ran a farm and had five children, Ewy being the only girl. She attended the local school first and then high school in the small nearby town of Ystad. Having completed her intermediate schooling, her father encouraged her to go to agricultural college.
