We all know that the Mercedes-Benz G-Class 550 is a very fierce vehicle but once you add an AMG hand-built from start to finish engine, well now you have an undeniable piece of powerful artwork. Automobile Magazine states that "the G550’s blown 4.0-liter V-8 is a studly piece. But for the AMG G63, “just” 416 hp simply won’t do. Instead, each G63 engine is hand-built from start to finish by a single AMG tech and then signed. As impressive as that brawn looks on paper, on the road, it’ll leave you babbling in disbelief. The G63 weighs near three tons, but you’d never know it. The first time I mashed down on the throttle in Sport+ mode, I thought I’d driven off a cliff. The G63 just flung itself at the horizon, the permanent all-wheel drive slamming every lb-ft to the asphalt, the quad side pipes blaring like an angry grizzly stuck in a dumpster, the acceleration so fierce it could straighten teeth sans braces". "It’s not just the mind-blowing straight-line speed. The G63 stands 6.5 feet tall and boasts 9.5 inches of ground clearance, but it’s got enough cornering power to transform any cargo in back into Silly Putty. My test car wore optional 22-inch rims with low-profile Goodyear Eagles that clung to the earth like four geckos. Sure, it rolls a little, but less than you’d expect, and its handling poise is physics-defying—like watching an elephant win gold in the slalom. But I know how AMG’s engineers do it: magic"."When you’re done roughhousing, Comfort mode softens the ride like an apology, the engine burbles, your troubles and concerns melt away. I put more than 700 miles on the G63, blissfully ensconced by the noise-canceling glass, my nose savoring the Mercedes-Benz Air Balance air purification system, my backside basking in a ventilated Nappa leather seat with massage. When I got home, I didn’t want to park the G63. I wanted to hang it on my wall". The Mercedes-Benz EQS has been spied for the very first time! At Mercedes-Benz of Smithtown, we are very excited to hear that a new member will be joining out Mercedes-Benz lineup. It is said that the EQS will be an electric flagship counterpart to the next-generation S-Class but will ride on a newly developed platform. The new EQS looks longer than the S-Class, and it has more of an egg-like shape with a hatchback rear end. According to Car and Driver, the EQS will be the first car to use the new MEA platform, which has been specifically designed for EVs. We don't know much else about the platform or what exactly will power the EQS, but it should have a range of around 300 miles and at least one motor at each axle to provide all-wheel drive. The EQS's wheelbase looks extremely long, and along with the sweeping tall greenhouse, it should provide the car with a more expansive and open interior than the S-Class. There's still a ton we don't know about the EQS such as pricing and on-sale date, but we think the car should be revealed next year as a 2021 model, a few months after the S-Class. According to Motor1, the hot C-Class will follow in the footsteps of the E63, sporting an AWD system with a drift mode that decouples the front driveshaft, allowing for some rear-biased fun. Switch the car into drift mode, and you have 100 percent of the power sent to the rear wheels. So, in essence, you get the traction and usability of an all-wheel-drive car, plus the ability to switch things up and light up the rear tires. Some refer to it as the finest automotive event on the East Coast, but it is formally known as Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance. For this year's event, which ran from March 7th-March 10th 2019 featured a very special vehicle. Presented on the Concours Field, was a pair of Mercedes-Benz 300SL "Gullwing" examples in their own exhibit area. The chassis, numbered 43 and 44, were built directly next to each other in the factory back in 1954. Now they've been reunited thanks to the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center. It is said that they were probably taken off the road sometime in the 1960s and sanded down to prepare for a paint job that never came about. The Gullwing numbered 44, was restored by Mercedes-Benz's Classic Center in Irvine, California, to its original 1954 look. Restored in 2018, chassis number 43 was originally shipped to Miami in 1954 and was only registered for ten years. Everything about this car is completely original, from the body, the glass, leather interior, drivetrain, and wheels, to the special Englebert tires. The only thing that has changed, is the finish of the body. Originally, the car was painted a radiant blue shade. The paintwork was then sanded down and primed before progress came to a halt. The pent went unfinished until Mercedes-Benz' recent restoration. Chassis number 44 was restored to the original condition that it once flaunted, some 5 decades ago. The Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance is truly one of the most well known and glamorous events for classic automobiles. Each year, the finest cars from all over the world are brought to this event, to be judged in different categories by a panel of jurors.
