Meet the 2023 Mercedes-AMG® S 63 E Performance: A Hybrid Powerhouse

The Mercedes-Benz S Class is the benchmark model for Mercedes-Benz expectations and is the flagship model of the entire fleet. Nearly 3 years after the Mercedes-AMG® S 63 Coupe (C217), Mercedes-Benz USA has announced the looming presence of the 2023 Mercedes-AMG® S 63 E Performance! The 2023 Mercedes-AMG® S 63 E Performance has been reinvented as a four-door sedan with an electrified 4 liter, V8 engine! 7 different drive modes, AMG® Ride Control+ Suspension, AMG® Active Road Control Roll Stabilization and Rear-Axle Steering are all standard on this beauty!

Electrification is a core element in regards to this year’s Mercedes-AMG® model. With this new hybrid drivetrain, the Mercedes-AMG® S 63 E Performance is anticipated to be the most powerful (and technologically advanced) S-Class yet! The 2023 Mercedes-AMG® S 63 E Performance marries together the aforementioned AMG® twin-turbo, 4-liter, V8 engine with a 188-hp rear axle electric motor. This electric motor is powered with 13.1kWh, which is more than double the battery capacity of the previous model. This innovative electric motor amplifies the overall specs of this hybrid powerhouse. With immediate torque stemming from the electric motor, take control of your drive with 791 horses and 1,055 lb-ft of torque!

It is important to note that the 2023 Mercedes-AMG® S 63 E Performance is electronically limited to a top speed of 180 mph. Regardless, the punch of power that gets delivered from the hybrid drivetrain is a huge benefit, especially when considering its positioning on the vehicle. Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-AMG® took inspiration from the Mercedes-Formula 1 team, the new electric battery is positioned over the rear axle, resulting in a more even weight distribution.

The Mercedes-AMG® S 63 E Performance is the first of its kind. Active engine mounts use bearings and vibration sensors to either harden or soften the connection of the engine to the chassis based on the current driving situation.

The 2023 Mercedes-AMG® S 63 E Performance has 3 stages of regenerative braking and e-motor torque vectoring! The 2023 Mercedes-AMG® S 63 E Performance will also have an Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System. This system is a benefit to pedestrians as it helps alert them to an incoming EV by using low-frequency sound waves! The engineers have made steering even easier with a variable-geometry steering ratio! Three different steering settings and rear-wheel steering up to 2.5 degrees will also be available!

To keep this hybrid drivetrain cool Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-AMG® have developed an electrically non-conductive liquid coolant that will flow to and cool all of the 1,200 cells! Over 3.7 gallons of this coolant will have a special electric pump to distribute it. As a result, the 13.1kWh battery will stay within the average operating temperature of ~113 degrees fahrenheit! The proper cooling of the hybrid drivetrain will increase the lifetime and performance of this special, innovative battery.

The exterior is equally as stunning and impressive as the interior. The 2023 Mercedes-AMG® S 63 E Performance will come in exclusive colorways, Nappa leather trim, embossed AMG® badging, a Dolby Atmos system with a 360 interior sound design and an AMG® steering wheel! The Dolby Atmos system will pair perfectly with the personal infotainment screens for each passenger!
