What Does AMG Stand For?

AMG is short for Aufecht, Melcher, and Großaspach, the division of Mercedes-Benz that produces performance vehicles with a sporting heritage, assertive style, and the promise of pure exhilaration.

History of AMG

In 1967, Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher founded AMG in an old mill in Burgstall, Germany. Nine years later, Mercedes-AMG and about a dozen employees found their new home in a purpose-built workshop and office space in the town of Affalterbach. To this day, they continue to develop Mercedes-AMG vehicles and, over 50 years later, their passion and commitment to driving performance is as strong as the day it started.

Difference Between Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-AMG

Most of the vehicles this team produces are similar to standard Mercedes-Benz models however, these AMG vehicles are equipped and designed with advanced engines, aerodynamic bodies, and high-speed capabilities. Many of these one of a kind Mercedes-AMG engines are hand-built from start to finish. Whenever Mercedes-Benz launches a new line of vehicles, the AMG team collaborates and incorporates AMG engines and technologies into those vehicles; ultimately creating a more powerful and versatile model.
