The Mercedes-Benz Project SMNR with Riot Games

Mercedes-Benz has been expanding their horizons and dipping their toes into the cyber world as their beautiful fleet of electric vehicles land into local showrooms and gain traction on Long Island roads. In August, Mercedes-Benz had announced their plans to launch their own independent Operating System, MB.OS. in 2024! In September, Mercedes-Benz renewed their partnership with Riot Games until 2025! 

From September 29th to November 5th, Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-EQ teamed up with the 2022 League of Legends World Championship, or Worlds for short. Mercedes-Benz has been the sole automotive partner of the League of Legends Worlds Championship. 

Worlds 2022 boasted its arrival at the Arena Esports Stadium at Artz Pedregal in Mexico City, Mexico on September 29th and stayed for play-ins until October 4th. From October 7th-10th, 13th-16th, and 20th-23rd, the entire championships’ roster was located at the Hulu Theater in Madison Square Garden in New York City (for the groups and quarter-finals), the Semi-Finals were on October 29th and 30th and were located at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. The Finals concluded on November 5th at the Chase Center in San Francisco, California.

This incredible next-generational event had 3 special features and events that have occurred over 37 days.

The first spotlight to shine on Mercedes-Benz was the constant presence and awareness of the new all-electric luxury SUV from Mercedes-EQ, the Mercedes-EQ EQS SUV. Mercedes-Benz of Smithtown is honored to share that the Mercedes-EQ EQS SUV carried the Summoner’s Cup, the official trophy of the League of Legends World Championship, throughout every bracket and second of the tournament. The Summoner’s Cup was handcrafted by Tiffany and Co., stands approx. 27” tall and is made of sterling and fine silver. 

 

 

The second special event is the first-ever virtual car show by Mercedes-Benz. On November 5th, Mercedes-Benz presented the Mercedes-Benz Project SMNR (“Summoner”) Concept vehicle. This innovative idea of a vehicle is supported by abstract energy, all thanks to limitlessness of the virtual design space.

The main supporting element of the design of Project SMNR is the “Energetic Core.” This is a solid core that dominates the dynamic design language and defines the vehicle’s character. The secondary, and equally important, supporting element are the “Zoning Molecules”, these are the vehicle’s energy source. They are free-flowing particles that live on a semi-transparent layer of molecules that can permanently adapt to the environment.  

The Mercedes-Benz Project SMNR is driven by the energy of the worldwide fan community: Each player and their avatar, called ‘Summoner’, are represented by an energy particle in the vehicle.

The Mercedes-Benz Project SMNR bridged the gap and redefined the boundary between reality and fiction. You can see the crazy-cool concept vehicle in the 2022 World’s official music video, “STAR WALKIN” by Lil Nas X, the new League of Legends President. Lil Nas X also performed “STAR WALKIN” during the Worlds 2022 Finals Opening Ceremony, he performed alongside Jackson Wang and Edda Hayes.

The third special element stemming from the Worlds 2022 Championship is the incorporation of various League of Legends design elements on the Mercedes-EQ EQS MBUX infotainment systems. On November 3rd, these pixels were installed automatically onto MBUX dashboards in San Francisco!
