New Mercedes-AMG® GLA 35

Mercedes-Benz Media Newsroom USA shares with us everything we need to know about the New Mercedes-AMG® GLA 35. Although Mercedes-Benz hasn’t shared a vehicle release date yet, hearing about all the new designs and features of the GLA 35 makes us extremely excited.

The Mercedes-AMG® GLA 35 combines high-style and high-performance into a sporty crossover. Equipped with an AMG®-enhanced engine; its high-torque 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine produces 302 horsepower which is variably distributed to all four wheels with its 8-speed dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive. This highly versatile new Mercedes-AMG® can accelerate from 0-60mph in 5.0 seconds.

Exterior Design

The AMG®-specific radiator grille immediately shows that the model is part of the AMG® family. Other highlights include the silver chrome trim in the outer air inlets and the front splitter. When viewed from the rear, the GLA 35 stands out due to its rear bumper with a new diffuser insert, AMG® spoiler lip on the roof spoiler and two round tailpipe trims. The model is also equipped with 19-inch 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels.

Interior Design

High-tech ambience with fully-digital displays and an interior trim with a carbon-fiber-look and air vents that feature ambient lighting.

MBUX infotainment system

The two 10.25” displays are under one shared glass cover, ultimately making a Widescreen Cockpit as a central element of the interior of the model. The infotainment system has clear controls and appealing presentations with maximum-resolution 3D graphics.

Operate the MBUX by use of the touchpad, Touch Control buttons on the steering wheel, voice control or even gesture control. Activate almost all commands that are common in the infotainment with voice control by saying the keyword “Hey Mercedes”

AMG®-specific displays

Three AMG® display styles for the instrument cluster are available including “Classic”, “Sport” and “Supersport.” The “Supersport” mode is particularly striking with a central, round rev counter and additional information presented in the form of bars to the left and right of the rev counter: with a three-dimensional perspective, they reach far into the background to an artificial horizon. Using the AMG® menu, the driver can call up various special displays such as Warm-up, Set-up, G-Force and Engine Data.

Turbocharged four-cylinder engine developing 302 horsepower

The 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine has an immediate response to accelerator pedal commands and a high torque of 295 lb-ft maximum torque from 3000 rpm. The crankcase is made of high-strength, lightweight die-cast aluminum and helps reduce the vehicles overall weight. A twin-scroll exhaust gas turbocharger combines optimum responsiveness at low engine speeds with a strong power increase at higher speeds.

AMG® SPEEDSHIFT® DCT 8G dual-clutch transmission

The gear ratios have been designed in a way so the driver experiences immediate acceleration in all speed ranges, along with fast shift times and optimum connections during gear changes. The RACE-START function allows for maximum acceleration from stationary.

AMG® Performance 4MATIC® variable all-wheel drive

The torque distribution suits the dynamic handling requirements; the spectrum ranges from front-wheel drive only to a 50:50 percent distribution to the front and rear axles. A multi-disc clutch that is controlled electro-mechanically is responsible for variable torque distribution between the front and rear axles. An electro-mechanical control over an electro-hydraulic system allows for a more refined driving dynamic.

Configurable vehicle characteristics: AMG® DYNAMIC SELECT

Equipped with five AMG® DYNAMIC SELECT drive programs including “Slippery”, “Comfort”, “Sport”, “Sport+” and “Individual” which offer a wide range of vehicle characteristics.

• The new “Slippery” drive program is optimized for low-grip, icy road conditions, with reduced power and a flat torque curve. Smooth gear changes and earlier upshifts support the driving impression characterized by stability.
• The “Comfort” mode stands for comfortable and fuel-efficient driving, for example thanks to early upshifts. Suspension and steering are set up for an emphasis on comfort.
• “Sport” and “Sport+” place the focus on agility and driving fun with sporty engine and transmission tuning.
• The “Individual” drive mode enables the individual parameters to be selected and saved according to personal preferences. In addition, the gliding function is available with the “Reduced” and “Moderate” drive settings.
