2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class Earns Top Safety Pick+ Award

October 28th, 2019 by

The newly reinvented 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class earns a Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety for vehicles equipped with specific headlights built after July. This is just another reason as to why the GLE is the perfect SUV for you and your family.

Insurance Institute for Highway Safety was able to share with us how and why the GLE was awarded as a Top Safety Pick. The redesigned GLE-Class earns good ratings in all six of the Institute’s crashworthiness evaluations. How exactly does a vehicle qualify for a Top Safety Pick+ Award? Here’s what the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety tested vehicles on for the 2019 Top Safety Pick Award:

The vehicle must earn good ratings in the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests. It also needs an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention and a good headlight rating.

The luxury SUV is equipped with a standard front crash prevention system and is also available with an optional system. Both systems earned superior ratings in IIHS tests although, neither of them performed perfectly.

The GLE-Class earns a good headlight rating for its available curve-adaptive LED projector headlights with high-beam assist on vehicles built after July 2019. High-beam assist is a system that automatically alternates between high and low beams, depending on the location of other vehicles around. Its base static LED headlights earn an acceptable rating.

On top of this extremely good rating from the IIHS, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE has a handful of other new features. Explore and test drive one today at Mercedes Benz of Smithtown!
