How To Use Cruise Control For Mercedes-Benz Cars

Every Mercedes Benz vehicle comes with driver assistance systems that makes life easier for users on the road. One of these features is the cruise control system.  With this state-of-the-art design, you can have enhanced convenience and comfort during long-distance journeys. Here is a quick and simply guide to Mercedes Benz’s cruise control and how it can improve your driving experience.

What is Cruise Control?

Before you are even able to use it, you will need to figure out what cruise control does. Cruise control, also known as “Speed Control”, basically allows the driver to choose a cruising speed of your choice. After activation, this driver assistance system helps to maintain the speed you have picked which can be easily toggled with an attached rocker switch. This means that you can rest your legs and prevent cramps on long drives, and also maintain an appropriate engine power.

Adaptive Cruise Control vs Conventional Cruise Control

Most of Mercedes Benz’s vehicle models offer adaptive cruise control as part of their Adaptive Cruise Control Stop & Go and Active Driving Assistance Package. Adaptive cruise control has all the benefits of conventional cruise control with the added benefit of distance control. Distance control is another driver assistance system that allows the vehicle to orientate to other automobiles on the road. This means that your car will accelerate or brake depending on how close the vehicle in front of yours through applied sensors that can constantly measure the distance between you and the car ahead and your vehicle’s current speed. For example, if you find yourself in stop start traffic, adaptive cruise control will automatically brake and start-up to accommodate accordingly.

Controls

  • To switch on, press the button that can be found at the steering wheel. Cruise control will be activated at the current speed.
  • To switch off, press the same button twice if cruise control is active and press once if it is interrupted. The display will turn off and whatever stored speed will be deleted.
  • To interrupt cruise control, press the button once. Cruise control will also be interrupted in certain circumstances, such as when the brakes are pressed, when pressure is applied on the clutch pedal, HDC is activated amongst other conditions.
  • To store or maintain the current speed, simply press the rocker switch when the system is interrupted. When cruise control is stored or maintained, DSC Dynamic Stability will be switched on as well, if necessary.
  • To change or maintain speed, simply press the rocker switch while cruise control is interrupted. You can press the rocker up or down to adjust accordingly. This can be done repeatedly until the display shows the desired speed. If cruise control is active when this is done, the speed displayed will be stored and the vehicle will speed up when the coast is clear.
