Electric vehicles are becoming increasingly popular all over Long Island, and even across the country. The luxurious yet sustainable Mercedes-EQ Electric Vehicles are perfect for any and all kinds of drivers who seek a high-quality vehicle that they can rely on. Whether it’s to take them from Kings Park , Smithtown , Port Jefferson , or Saint James , all the way to New York City for your daily commute, out to the Hamptons for a day trip, or even further for a longer road trip with your family, you know you can count on them!

As electric vehicles appear all over the Long Island Expressway, potential drivers looking to get into electric usually have many questions before switching over from a standard gasoline vehicle. Luckily for them, we’re here to answer any and all questions you might have!

Let’s start with the most frequently asked questions we receive!

Q: How does an EV work?

A: Electric vehicles work by plugging into a charging point, and taking electricity from the grid. The electricity is stored in the battery, which powers the motor (no engine in this type of car!), turning the wheels!

Q: What is the range of electric vehicles?

A: The Mercedes-EQ lineup is capable of 250-350 miles of range!

Q: How long does it take to charge an electric vehicle?

A: Level 1 – Up To 72 Hours: These are the types of chargers you plug into the regular AC plug in your garage and leave charging your car over a long period of time, such as overnight.

Level 2 – Up to 12 Hours: This is the charging station most commonly installed in residential garages, it requires new hardware to be installed in the wall such as a different outlet type with a higher voltage.

Level 3 Rapid charging – 31 Minutes: This is going to the kinds of charging stations you’ll find in parking lots or at gas stations, meant to get you charged up and back on the road quickly.

Q: Can I install a home charger for my electric vehicle?

A: Yes, as long as you have a driveway, garage, or somewhere else to store your car, you can install an electric vehicle charger. We recommend the Chargepoint Homeflex for at home charging!

Q: How do I find charging stations for my vehicle?

A: All Mercedes-EQ models include charging stations programmed into the navigation! If you are not using your vehicle’s navigation, using Google Maps, Apple Maps, Waze, or any navigation app will show you charging stations when you search “Chargepoint” or “Charging Station”!

For iPhone users, Apple is adding a feature in iOS 17 that will show real-time charging availability information and let drivers choose a preferred charging network such as Electrify America, Chargepoint, and more!

For Android users, or people that don’t like Apple Maps, Google Maps also shows you real-time charger availability!

Q: Are electric vehicles better for the environment?

A: Yes, electric vehicles create less emissions than gasoline powered vehicles! This causes fewer greenhouse gasses and air pollutants to be released into the environment.

Q: What is the lifespan of an EV battery?

A: Mercedes-EQ batteries are expected to last 10-20 years!

Q: How often do I need to maintain my electric vehicle?

A: Mercedes-EQ vehicles require maintenance every two years, or 20,000 miles, whichever comes first! A tire rotation is recommended every 10,000 miles.

Q: Can my EV be used for long road trips?

A: The Mercedes-EQ electric vehicles are great for road trips because you can set a threshold for the navigation system to guide you to a charging point!

With 350 miles of range in the EQS Sedan, road trips are a breeze!

Q: What is “regenerative braking” or “one pedal driving” in an EV?

A: Regenerative braking captures otherwise wasted kinetic energy and heat that would have been lost, and uses it to recharge the battery, giving you extra range!

One Pedal Driving is is a technology in electric vehicles that allows you to drive only using the accelerator pedal. As your foot eases off the accelerator, the car automatically breaks using the regenerative braking, which in turn charges the car’s battery!

Q: Are EVs just as safe as gasoline vehicles?

A: Electric vehicles must meet the same safety standards as conventional gasoline vehicles. They are just as safe, if not safer due to their lower center of gravity!

Q: How do electric vehicles compare, in terms of acceleration and speed?

A: Mercedes-EQ electric vehicles accelerate much faster due to the fact that they have no transmission, no engine, and create instant power from electric motors!
