2020 Mercedes-Benz S-Class vs. 2019 Nissan 370Z

Large luxury sedans can learn a lot from the 2020 Mercedes-Benz S-Class. It is, after all, the yardstick that other luxurious brands use in improving their own vehicles. It is superior across all aspects, including style, performance, and technology.

While it is clear that it cannot beat the S-Class in any way, it would still be fun to compare it against the 2019 Nissan 370Z.

Design & Style

The new S-Class is more sophisticated and sleek than the stunning predecessors. The German brand truly gave it all in making the S-Class look as elegant as it can be from its exterior down to the cabin. Classy details on the three-box proportions are well-blended and added with even more premium items, such as the Swarovski crystal headlights. The interior is very lavish, to say the least. There is a limitless selection for the leather upholstery so anyone can customize the level of elegance for the cabin.

To keep up with the changing tastes for style, Nissan chose to make the styling for the 370Z uncomplicated. It looks relevant but plain and most premium car buyers prefer to see a lot going on, at least on the exterior.

Technology & Safety

Aside from looking modern and sophisticated, the infotainment system of the S-Class is also tech-forward and intuitive. The huge screen area is made up of two 12.3-inch displays. The menu structure is so simple to use and will not overwhelm the user. The standard features for navigation, audio, and connectivity are already superb and can do without any upgrades. There is an also a suite of driver aids to keep the S-Class one of the safest luxury cars in the market.

Another mistake of Nissan on the 370Z is that it never made any effort on upgrading the basic infotainment system. It looks dated and lacks modern features other than *Bluetooth® connectivity. It is like having a car from the ’90s where the only “modern” you can use with it is for charging mobile devices.

The S-Class is either fast or very fast. The standard engine is a 3.0-liter V-6 that can peak at 362 hp. If you find that lacking, there’s either a 4.0-liter V-8 or the massive 6.0-liter V-12 for a whopping 621 hp. It makes a lot of sense why the S-Class is quite famous for its insane road performance.

Even though the 370Z is built to perform, the 332hp V-6 engine is not enough to rival the base engine of the S-Class. The drive train is also unrefined which significantly limits its handling capabilities.

The Bottom Line

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is truly a winner compared to the 2019 Nissan 370Z. From the styling down to its electrifying performance, the S-Class will never disappoint.
