Redesigned boost its lineup with technology features, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE knows how to balance performance with all the elements that it has been gifted with. It has an upscale cabin with plenty of space to accommodate the needs of car lovers out there.
The 2021 BMW X5 is admired for its strong engine performance. It also has an upscale interior with refined handling.
Design & Style
The Mercedes-Benz GLE can seat up to five people in its four-door setup. The good news is that there can be plenty of room if you choose the one with the third row. This gives it a capacity to accommodate seven passengers. This comfortable ride oozes with luxury on the inside, ready to define next level craftsmanship.
Like the GLE, the 2021 BMW X5 comes standard with its five-seat configuration. This can be updated to include a third row to accommodate seven passengers. You will find the first two rows supportive, and comfortable with plenty of legroom and headroom for taller occupants. The third row addition is cramped though. The cabin is made out of synthetic leather upholstery.
Technology & Safety
The all-new Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system is part of the GLE Class. This one is paired with a reliable, responsive, and sleek 12.3-inch touch screen. Offering gesture controls that function with the wave of a hand, you will find it easier using the setup. Standard safety features for this ride include a rearview camera, active brake assist blind spot monitoring, active brake assist, and driver attention monitoring. It also has a standard active parking assist which has parking sensors used to automatically steer the SUV when moving through parallel parking spaces.
The X5 is proud to offer a 12.3-inch touchscreen with its iDrive infotainment system. This one has support for Apple CarPlay which is free for a year. There is no support provided for Android Auto, though. There is a satellite radio, HD radio, Bluetooth®, and multiple USB ports in this car. Safety features include front and rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and forward collision warning, among others.
Performance
The GLE 350 has a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that can spruce up to 255 horsepower. Its six-cylinder setup reaches up to 362 horsepower. This puts the X5 at the losing end since its six-cylinder version can only generate up to 335 horsepower.
The Bottom Line
There are plenty of reasons to simply vote for the 2020 GLE over the 2021 BMW X5. It has beautiful features matched by technologies that are worth your investment. It also carries a potent engine lineup that defeats that of the X5’s.
