2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC

2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC

VS
2021 Lexus NX

2021 Lexus NX

2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC vs. 2021 Lexus NX

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC knows how to exceed expectations, especially with the decision to add more horsepower to its base trim level. It has updated its interior and exterior design as well. Expect a comfortable cabin for five as well.

The 2021 Lexus NX is one luxury compact SUV that has a comfortable and high-end interior. It promises to have more standard safety features when compared to its predecessor. Blind spot monitoring is now part of that list of standard driver aids.

Design & Style

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC promises a comfortable ride in its well-crafted cabin. The two rows of seats have plenty of legroom and headroom for passengers of all shapes and sizes. Materials are more than just lavish for this car. They have been chosen to meet the topnotch expectations of avid car lovers out there.

A two-row SUV with five seats, the 2021 NX is a combination of supple and comfortable front seats that are great for taller occupants, and a similarly plush rear-seat configuration that can fit three kids. Take note though that seating capacity is reduced to four if only adults are onboard. The interior is praised for using high-end materials, metal accents included. It is defined by clean lines, with soft-touch plastics, and cushioned upholstery.

Technology & Safety

The 2020 GLC replaced the COMAND® interface with the better Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system. This is fitted with 10.25-inch touch screen display which works to provide functions for its two USB ports, HD Radio, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and *Bluetooth®. Standard driver assistance features are the rearview camera, driver drowsiness monitoring, active brake assist, and crosswind assist. There is also a Pre-Safe system which tightens seat belts and rolls up windows when there is an imminent collision.

The 2021 NX has a Remote Touch infotainment system that is paired with an eight-inch display. This configuration uses a touchpad, which gives it a drawback, since it is quite distracting to use when driving. It integrates Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa, plus it has a Bluetooth® interface, a Wi-Fi hot spot, a USB port, eight speakers, and an HD radio. Safety equipment include the rearview camera, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and traffic sign recognition, among others.

Performance

The base engine for the GLC is that of a four-cylinder, turbocharged version that yields up to 255 horsepower. Coming next is a plug-in hybrid version that combines the base engine with an electric motor to result in 315 horsepower. Next is a twin-turbo V6 version that generates 385 horsepower. There are also two twin-turbo V8 engines, one reaching up to 469 horsepower, and the other generating up to 503 horsepower.

The NX, on the other hand, carries a four-cylinder turbocharged, 2.0-liter engine that can generate up to 235 horsepower. The engine sounds gruff during hard acceleration.

The Bottom Line

The 2020 GLC knows how to impress and even topples the once best luxury compact SUVs. It is something you can look forward to in terms of all the aspects mentioned above.
