With a peppy acceleration and an impressive cabin to match, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz A-Class is really one of those cars you can look forward too. On top of that, the Mercedes-AMG® A 35 model joins lineup.
The 2020 Acura ILX, on the other hand, opted not to have any major changes when compared to its predecessor. You can expect many standard features included in this car though.
Design & Style
Seating up to five people in its well-bolstered seats, the A-Class guarantees a comfortable ride even during long trips. It has an airy cabin that will definitely make you feel more at ease during the ride. What’s more is that this ride may be the least expensive in the brand’s lineup, yet it still has that usual luxurious feel. Surfaces are definitely soft to the touch. While it comes standard with aluminum trim accents, one can opt to have the red wood grain variation for an even more upscale feel.
In the case of the 2020 Acura ILX, synthetic leather upholstery, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated front sport seats, and shift knob come standard. While there is plenty of room in front, the rear is a bit cramped for this ride. Some hard plastics make the sedan look cheaper than its rivals.
Technology & Safety
The 2020 A-Class carries the Mercedes-Benz User Experience infotainment system, which comes fitted with a virtual dashboard. This pairs with a seven-inch digital display, as well as a same-sized touch screen configuration. This system is easy to master and it comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as five USB ports. All models from the A-Class have standard safety features like the rearview camera, rain-sensing windshield wipers, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, and forward collision warning.
Among the standard features in the Acura ILX are its infotainment system with a 5-inch touch screen, a six-speaker stereo, a USB port, *Bluetooth®, and Siri Eyes Free. The entire setup is quite confusing to use though, plus it looks outdated when compared to what rivals offer. Standard safety aids for the car are found in the AcuraWatch, which features lane keep assist, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, a road departure mitigation system, a collision mitigation braking system, a surround-view parking camera system, and the adaptive cruise control.
Performance
The base engine for the 2020 Mercedes-Benz A-Class is 2.0 liters and turbocharged to produce a maximum of 188 horsepower. It may be way below the 200 horsepower benchmark for luxury small cars but this car does not disappoint in terms of power delivery and ride smoothness. Meanwhile, the 2020 Acura ILX’s four-cylinder engine can only produce up to 201 horsepower.
The Bottom Line
There are plenty of things to look forward to in both cars, as evident in their beautifully-crafted bodies and their set of reliable technology and safety features. It cannot be denied, however, that the A-Class is better considering all the aspects of comparison discussed above.
