2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class vs. 2018 Hyundai Genesis

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is a mix of elegance and power that has made this car popular among drivers. The ability to have an executive luxury sedan that can still thrill you when you want to enjoy the drive draws many people to the E-Class.

The 2018 Hyundai Genesis represents the first attempt by this brand to build a sport sedan and the resulting car is a mix of wins and misses. Here is how the 2018 Hyundai Genesis compares to the E-Class.

Design & Style

As one would expect from Mercedes-Benz, the E-Class comes with a touch of elegant luxury that never lets the driver forget he or she is driving a Mercedes-Benz. This means exquisitely done and everything is where we would expect it to be.

The 2018 Hyundai Genesis also got the outer design right with its sweeping lines and aggressive yet affluent look. The interior is fairly ok but cannot be compared with the opulent luxury that is the Mercedes-Benz E-Class interior.

Technology & Safety

The E-Class is not short on tech. From voice commands that operate features around the cabin to collision warning, the E-Class is miles ahead of most cars in its class when it comes to safety features. Technology features include smartphone integration among others. They are also easy to use and the infotainment features sharp and well-defined graphics.

The Genesis is not left behind in this area either. The 2018 model comes with a touchscreen infotainment system and includes smartphone integration. The graphics on the user interface, however, are of a lower quality than you would expect from a car at this level. This takes some of the shine off the Hyundai Genesis.

The E-Class comes with a choice of a 3.0-liter turbocharged engine or a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. They both deliver a smooth but powerful ride. All this is accomplished while keeping the engine noise to a low hum even when accelerating. The 2.0-liter version is surprisingly powerful despite being the smallest in the series.

The Genesis comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine which still delivers a decent performance. However, the engine has a tendency to lag making the Genesis’ ride a far less smooth than it could be.

The Bottom Line

While the 2018 Genesis represents Hyundai’s attempt to build a sports sedan, the Genesis is still a long way from getting there. The E-Class wins here in all aspects from the styling to the engine performance. The E-Class delivers a far more refined driving experience in complete luxury.
