2018 Mercedes-Benz C-Class vs. 2018 Lexus ES 350

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class is a compact executive sedan that has been in production since 1993. The C-Class was initially available as a sedan and a station wagon but in 2000, Mercedes-Benz launched a sports coupe variant of the series.

The Lexus ES 350 is similarly started off as a compact executive sedan that has since evolved into a mid-size executive sedan. The car is in the seventh generation and the first five were built on a Toyota Camry platform.

Design & Style

The 2018 Mercedes-Benz C-Class has a sloping roof that gives it a stylish and sporty look. Inside the car though, the sloping roof does not change the fact that the cabin is big and airy, with ample head space and leg room. The C-Class has leather upholstery and an ergonomic dashboard.

The Lexus ES 350 comes with the distinct hour-glass shaped grill that features in all Lexus cars. The ES 350 has sharp and aggressive lines that run along each side of the car. Inside, the interior is less plush than that of the C-Class but fairly comfortable.

Technology & Safety

With its Voice Command Module, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class is way ahead of the ES 350 when it comes to technology. The C-Class also throws in a driver assist package as well as smartphone connectivity through Apple Carplay and Android Auto.

The Lexus ES 350 struggles to keep up. It comes with touch screen to input commands as well as a host of other features but they are sometimes difficult to use. For example, the touch screen interface is not user-friendly and the graphics are not easy to interpret.

The C-Class features a 2.0-liter turbo engine that gives the car more than enough power to handle anything that is thrown at it. This gives the car smooth acceleration and great handling. The C-Class engine delivers this performance without much noise, maintain that executive sedan-feel to the C-Class. The aerodynamic body eliminates lags and rolls and keeps the C-Class firmly grounded.

The Lexus ES 350 is powered by a 3.5-liter turbocharged engine. This is controlled through an 8-speed automatic transmission that gives the car good performance. The big engine, however, can be noisy, especially in the Sport version and this spoils the executive feel of the car.

The Bottom Line

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class delivers smooth performance in ultra-comfort. This makes it the clear winner in this comparison. The Lexus ES 350 still has a long way to go in having the same luxury feel that an executive sedan in the category should deliver.
